The Ukrainian leader\u2019s presence would only \u201cmake it very hard to make deals,\u201d the US president has said<\/strong><\/p>\n Ukraine\u2019s leader Vladimir Zelensky is actually \u201cnot very important\u201d<\/em> to have at meetings, US President Donald Trump has said, adding he only makes negotiations difficult.<\/p>\n Trump ramped up his ongoing criticism of the Ukrainian leader in an interview with Fox News\u2019 Brian Kilmeadeon on Friday, during which he suggested Zelensky was an obstacle to making any deal to end the conflict with Russia and suggested the it is \u201cnot very important\u201d<\/em> to have him at meetings at all.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s been at meetings for three years with a very, with a president who didn\u2019t know what the hell he was doing,\u201d<\/em> Trump said, referring to his predecessor Joe Biden and dismissing Zelensky\u2019s complaints about Ukraine not being represented during recent talks between Moscow and Washington in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s been at the meetings for three years and nothing got done. So I don\u2019t think he\u2019s very important to be at meetings to be honest with you\u2026 He\u2019s – he makes it very hard to make deals. But look what\u2019s happened to his country, it\u2019s been demolished,\u201d<\/em> Trump added.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, the US president branded Zelensky a \u201cdictator\u201d<\/em> for refusing to hold presidential elections, and claimed the Ukrainian leader had an extremely low approval rating in his country.<\/p>\n When repeatedly pressed by the host about whether Russia was responsible for the ongoing conflict, Trump dodged the question, suggesting that other parties were at fault. The US president also reiterated his claim that the hostilities would never have started if he had been in office at the time.<\/p>\n
