Israel and Hamas accuse each other of ceasefire violations amid a US ultimatum<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>US President Donald Trump has issued a stern ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the release of all remaining hostages held in Gaza by midday Saturday, and warning that failure to comply would result in \u201call hell\u201d<\/em> breaking out.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Hamas threatened to halt the release of additional hostages, accusing Israel of violating the terms of the fragile ceasefire agreement by preventing displaced Palestinians from returning to northern Gaza, restricting the delivery of humanitarian aid, and delaying negotiations for the second phase of the deal.<\/p>\n

In response, Israel stated that Hamas\u2019s actions constituted a complete breach of the agreement, under which the militant group pledged to initially release 33 hostages in several batches in exchange for 1,904 Palestinian prisoners held by Israeli authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have instructed the IDF to prepare at the highest level of alert for any possible scenario in Gaza,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Defense Minister Israel Katz stated.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump said the future of the ceasefire would be \u201cIsrael\u2019s decision.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cBut as far as I\u2019m concerned, if all of the hostages aren\u2019t returned by Saturday at 12 o\u2019clock \u2013 I think it\u2019s an appropriate time \u2013 I would say cancel it, and all bets are off. Let hell break out,\u201d<\/em> Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want them all back,\u201d<\/em> he added, insisting that the hostages should be released all at once,\u00a0\u201cnot in dribs and drabs, not two and one and three and four and two.\u201d<\/em> Asked to clarify what punitive measures he envisions, Trump reiterated that\u00a0\u201call hell is going to break out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Last week, Trump floated the idea of the US taking control of the Palestinian enclave during a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He proposed transforming Gaza \u2013 left in ruins after 15 months of war between Israel and Hamas \u2013 into what he described as \u201cthe Riviera of the Middle East.\u201d<\/em> As part of the plan, he suggested relocating Palestinians to neighboring Arab countries while the area was redeveloped. On Monday, he threatened to withhold aid to Jordan and Egypt if they refused to take Palestinian refugees.<\/p>\n
